Our extraordinarily talented and creative people deliver results for our clients.  Witnessing the high degree of success that can result from the coordinated efforts of a team of the best talents available led to the formation of the “team” concept, which has proved to be a major success for PMA.

PMA, with its exceptionally qualified “in-house” staff and association with many of the finest industry professionals and consultants, offers a team approach to doing business.  This “team” approach has been developed through many years of experience and has proven to be a very successful business strategy.  It has allowed PMA to stay one step ahead of market trends; analyzing market shifts and positioning its clients in the pathway of pending progress.

The “team”, comprised of some of the industry’s most talented, results-oriented associates, organizations and businesses, gives PMA the ability to handle all aspects of a real estate transaction; from the initial step of identifying property and prospective purchasers through the vesting/governmental approval process, developing and implementing marketing strategies, to the purchase and/or sale/lease of the last unit, PMA provides its clients with exceptional abilities and services very rarely seen together.


Gary Coates, President of PMA, has an extensive and unusual background in the development industry, ranging from the academic area of research to the creatively pragmatic area of building, to the multi-disciplined area of major community development and business financing.  Beginning in 1969, as a Vice President of Sanford R. Goodkin Research Corporation and a partner in Clasky-Coates Associates, he conducted market research studies and consulted with builder/developers on the planning, design, development and marketing of over 100,000 residential units.  His foray into building activities followed, achieving in excess of 1,000 sales annually.  His Florida experience began in the late 70’s, where his involvement in major PUD community sales and development is notable, and includes such properties as 1,000 acre Boca Pointe project and major sections of West Palm Beach’s Wellington community.  In the process of involvement with multi-faceted projects, Gary has developed positive relationships with individuals and organizations operating on the highest levels of experience in the various phases of real estate development.


Christopher Coates, Senior Sales Associate, has established himself working in the multi-family residential arena, specifically senior living, apartment development, and condo high-rise. He has also spent a considerable amount of time on the commercial side of the industry, particularly with respect to mixed-use and shopping center. His capabilities extend to encompass creative aspects of acquisition and development such as planning, marketing, negotiation, and deal making. Drawing on a strong technical background in writing, communication, and art, he is able to effectively portray concepts and ideas to illustrate key points.


James R. Johns, Senior Sales Associate, started his career in the real estate development business over 30 years ago with the Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation in Youngstown, Ohio.  He has worked in all phases of commercial development including land acquisitions, out parcel sales, with his main focus being leasing.

For the past 25 years in South Florida, Jim has been involved with the sales and development of several large commercial and residential projects.  He has strong ties to the building industry and participated as both a principal and sales associate.  He is currently operating out of PMA’s West Coast Division, located in Naples, Florida.  His experience in the commercial aspects of the real estate business have made him an exceptional addition to the PMA “team”.


John P. Scharrer, Vice President, has been employed in the commercial real estate business for over 25 years.  John joined PMA in 1987, coming from a major commercial real estate brokerage firm where he was the Project Director for the West Broward Industrial Park, a 600 acre master planned commerce center.  As an associate of PMA, he re-focused his efforts to specialize in residential master planned communities, selling land to master community developers, as well as parcel sale to builders within planned communities.  His initial focus was on Broward County, completing major sales in the Miramar/Pembroke Pines, Coconut Creek and Parkland/Coral Springs areas.  Over the years, his foresight has kept PMA ahead of the development and growth trends by familiarizing himself with the nuances of the planning and zoning requirements of individual cities and counties other than those in South Florida.


Ryan Scharrer, Senior Sales Associate, is a powerful addition to the PMA sales staff, and is following in his father’s very successful footsteps.  Having learned the business from one of the best, he is uniquely qualified and is quickly becoming experienced in identifying those special properties which make a tract of land superior, meeting the requirements PMA’s builders/developers have when analyzing land for development and construction.  It seems the “land business” is in the blood, and his youth and energy convey the PMA attitude at its best.


Jay Bailyn, Senior Sales Associate, has an extensive background in real estate development.  He began his career at Toll Brothers, where he learned the development and construction business and became a project manager.  He left Toll to pursue his own development projects in Palm Beach and St. Lucie Counties.  Most recently Jay served as Vice President at Kenco Communities, where he performed acquisitions and acted in an advisory capacity to the C.E.O. 

Jay studied mathematics at MIT and earned a degree in English Literature from Cornell University.


Lawrence C. "Larry" Sigman, Broker / Salesperson, a graduate of New York University, Larry has been involved with many facets of the real estate industry in South Florida for over 30 years.  His association with various major country club communities and condominium developments in the area as Vice President / Director of Sales and Marketing, has produced ongoing relationships with well known community developers, individual builders, sales/marketing and advertising professionals, as well as end unit purchasers.  He has the insight to readily put the right buyer/seller, builder/developer together and assist both to the satisfactory completion of the transactions.
